From time immemorial, space, the universe, the infinite has fascinated man and attracted him to the point of first making him dream, then pushing him to design machines capable of taking him to this 'beyond' the earth. On October 4, 1957, the first Soviet sputnik was launched from Baikonur, at a time when the two superpowers, the USSR and the USA, were engaged in a cold war, to the delight of science and advances in the conquest of space. On April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space one month later, the American Alan Shepard succeeded him in the wake, President Kennedy launched the Apollo space program hoping to land men on the moon before the end of the 1960s on April 12, 1981, the first American space shuttle Columbia flew from the Kennedy Center at Cape Canaveral and on March 23, 2001, it was the destruction of the Russian orbital station MIR. This is an opportunity to look back on this epic and on man's constant desire to go beyond the limits until discovering, perhaps one day, a life elsewhere.
