Jan 8, 1978 - Memphis, Tennessee, U.S. - Sex Pistols members Sid Vicious (with cigarette), Steve Jones and Johnny Rotten (behind Jones) arrived at the Taliesyn Ballroom in Midtown on January 6, 1978, where the mood was tense as the concert was oversold and angry fans stood outside the venue. Inside, the audience waited 90 minutes for the band to take the stage. The group managed to play five more U.S. dates before Rotten quit on Jan. 18. Vicious retired to the Chelsea Hotel in New York, where his girlfriend Nancy mysteriously died in October. Cook and Jones formed a new group, The Professionals. And 13 months after appearing in Memphis, Vicious died of a heroin overdose. The place where the Sex Pistols played in Memphis is now a Taco Bell on Union Ave. Memphis USA
