Photography and photo art Nicole Holz: Out and about in Hamburg - here in the historic Sandtorhafen harbor with a view of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in HafenCity. The Sandtorhafen is the traditional harbor of the Hamburg Maritime Foundation. Since 1866, it has been Hamburg's first artificially created harbor basin where seagoing vessels could be handled alongside the quay. The Sandtorhafen is regarded as the nucleus of the "modern port". Sandtorkai, now Hamburg's oldest quay wall, was restored in 2002 in line with its listed status and opened as a traditional shipping port in September 2008. A 5,600 square meter, curved pontoon facility with a length of 380 m offers berths for around 20-25 historic ships, while 40-50 ships can be moored there on special occasions.
