Camerwork

As a child my folks took us to Europe a few times, and I learned French, German and Danish. The languages gave me access to other cultures.
My biog is 6+ pages, as I've been a photographer for fifty (50) years. I've had too many exhibitions to list, and I only know how many awards I've gotten as I had to research them. The number is 389, and it's a little embarrassing. The reason I became a photographer is that I am shy, and used the camera to block others from seeing me.
Who inspired me? in the beginning, my Dad got me started by showing me how he made pictures with his 35mm cameras. Then I studied with Arnold Newman, Dick Avedon, Ansel Adams, Duane Michals, and as many other shooters as I could get to. Some meetings were brief, but if you're paying attention, you can pick up what you need to learn.

The most important are grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Graham Foundation for The Fine Arts. I am a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) Hall of Fame. I have prints in the Smithsonian and have won a few contests. Now I know a lot about a lot, but not everything. If that ever happens, take me out and shoot me. There is always another vista to see, or another face to portray. Unfortunately, now I am disabled, and walk with difficulty, so my advice is to collect my work now as there won't be an endless stream of new images. I could teach too, but nobody's offered to set up a course.

too many to list. I no longer enter competitions. That being said, if somebody came to me to award a Nobel or a shot at the Venice Biennale, I could go for that.

Thanks for reading, and take a look around as I have made about 1.3 million pictures on film. For fun I invented a nom de plume: Daniel Ocean.
Cordially,
Danny
