At a party in July 1969 Keith Richards, the guitarist of The Rolling Stones had the idea to create a song impromptu using a box full of percussion instruments. Each guest, including Paul McCartney of The Beatles, picked an instrument at random from the box and began to play. Charlie Watts, drummer for The Rolling Stones, began playing a basic rhythm line, and the other musicians joined in by improvising percussion parts. The result was a spontaneous jam session that lasted several hours, and eventually resulted in the song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" which was later recorded. This story has become legendary in the history of rock music, as it illustrates the creativity and spontaneous spirit of great musicians.
