Les Sables-d'Olonne (Vendée), France, Thursday, January 19, 2017: for his third participation, the French sailor Armel Le Cléac'h wins at the age of 39 the 8th edition of the Vendée Globe 2016-2017, a sailing race around of the world alone, non-stop and without assistance, improving the record of the event in 74 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds, on his IMOCA monohull boat "Banque populaire VIII": smiling attitude of the winner with his arm raised, posing on the deck of the sailboat with his 6-year-old son Edgar, whom he has just found on his arrival. He is nicknamed "The Jackal" because he is so tenacious. Armel Le Cléac'h is a granite sailor. Gentle and affable on land, tough and ruthless at sea when it comes to winning a race. The triangle Roscoff, Carantec, Île de Batz, in Finistère, is the playground of his childhood. In 1989, at the age of 12, he already dreams of winning the Vendée Globe. For his first two participations, he has his hair done at the post by the winner. Le Cléac'h is not the type to settle for an eternal second place.
