Since 1956 the Süddeutsche Zeitung Photo, then still under the name "SV-Bilderdienst", has been active nationally and internationally as a photographic agency for press photography and photo reporting. The basic stock of the historical image inventory comes from the archives of the Süddeutsche Zeitung with approximately 550,000 historical photos from the Münchner Neuesten Nachrichten and part of the image archive of the Berliner Scherl Verlag. In addition, over the years, works by photographers from the Süddeutsche Zeitung and other Süddeutsche Verlag publications such as Münchner Illustrierte, photographs by independent photographers and national and international partner agencies have been published.
