Thomas Pesquet blasted off on November 17, 2016, to the International Space Station as part of ESA's Proxima mission, he returned to Earth on June 2, 2017, after a six-month mission.
In 2021, Thomas Pesquet returned aboard the International Space Station for a second mission named "Alpha" after the star Alpha Centauri, located in the same system as Proxima. Thomas was the first European to leave Earth aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon, which took off from Florida, USA, on April 23, 2021 for a mission of more than 6 months.
