The arrival of sea ice ended the isolation of island villages like Saattut, which houses 200 people and 500 sled dogs. Freed from boats or expensive air travel, residents go to sleighs and snowmobiles for hunting trips and visits to relatives. No road links the cities of Greenland, even on the mainland.
