Flamingos are photographed on September 30, 2011 at Lake Natron, at the foot of Ol Doinyo Lengai. Clouds of flamingo salmon flying overhead are common in Rift Valley lakes in East Africa, but mud mounds where they lay are only found here. The caustic waters of Lake Natron are the only breeding ground for the endangered dwarf flemish, but the Tanzanian government is determined to revive the project to build a soda at the lake.
