Commissioned in 1898, this railway was designed to connect Kinshasa to the port of Matadi palliait the 300 km innavigables of the Congo River. Its construction cost the lives of thousands of Congolese workers. At a standstill since 2003, trains serving the central Congo have resumed operations since August 2015 and now have a first class and a luxury compartment.
