Noto is an Italian commune of about 24,000 inhabitants, located in the province of Syracuse, in the south-east of Sicily. After the earthquake of 1693, it was completely rebuilt in the Sicilian Baroque style. The Church of the Crocifisso (of the Crucifix) houses the statue of the Virgin of the Snow made by the sculptor Francesco Laurana in 1471.
