This view of Marseille is unusual. Of course we can see Notre-dame-de-la-Garde, the "Good Mother" dear to all the inhabitants of Marseille, perched on its limestone peak. We can also see the road of the cornice and the Roucas-Blanc district. But above all, this picture shows in the background the Garlaban massif on the left, the Sainte-Baume massif in the center - from which we can see the radar "ball" at the top of the Bertagne peak - and the first foothills of the Calanques massif on the right.
I am often asked if this photo is a montage... The answer is no ! If these mountains seem to be stuck to the city, it's because the shot was taken from the top of the semaphore of Pomègues, with a 105mm focal length that "crushes" the perspective. The visual effect obtained is Marseille at the foot of the mountains!
